Agoraphobia is often misunderstood as simply a fear of open spaces. In reality, it’s an intense fear of being somewhere that feels unsafe, or hard to escape, if panic strikes. That could mean crowded places, public transportation, or for some, even leaving the house at all.
It’s not about being dramatic, weak, or difficult. It’s the nervous system doing everything it can to protect you, even when that protection makes life smaller than you want it to be.
If you’re here because you’re living with this, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. If you’re here because someone you love is living with it, thank you for wanting to understand.
